Angela Brooks

Angela feels that a huge part of her work for equity starts with access to quality education. She believes that every child should have equal access to an excellent school, a safe learning environment, and a diverse student body that enriches the educational experiences of all students, which will enable a better Chicago.

Angela D. Brooks is a talented and passionate community advocate who brings a wealth of expertise in housing development, policy, and implementation across private, public, and nonprofit sectors along with her passion for access to housing and community development.

Angela joined the Corporation for Supportive Housing after serving as the Development Manager for the Chicago Housing Authority (CHA), where she served as the primary liaison between the CHA, City of Chicago, HUD, State of Illinois, Public Housing Tenants and Community Residents while managing $150 million in mixed-use, mixed finance development projects. Prior to this position, Angela worked for FMHC and as the Associate Director of Real Estate Development at Heartland Housing, a premier supportive housing developer in Chicago. 

Before moving to Chicago, Angela worked for the Mayor’s Office of Housing in Seattle, Washington, where she coordinated all aspects of the Multi-Family Tax Exemption Program, prepared legislation, and assisted with the development of the CDBG fund program goals. She started her career working at Covenant House in New Orleans and as a Housing Planner in the State of Washington working for Martin Luther King County in the Housing, Homelessness and Community Development Division.

Angela has a Master of Urban and Regional Planning from the University of New Orleans and a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies with a concentration in Housing and Community Development from Jackson State University. She is a certified planner with the American Institute of Certified Planners and currently serves as a National President of the American Planning Association, Illinois Affordable Housing Trust Fund Advisory Commission and is on the Chicago Zoning Board of Appeals. Angela is an avid cyclist and triathlete and serves on the Board of Bike Illinois and is a member of the Major Taylor Cycling Club of Chicago.
