Phius has unveiled the winners of its 2025 Passive Projects Design Competition, with The Academy for Global Citizenship (AGC) named as the winner in the Commercial/Institutional category.

The annual competition honors fully certified passive building projects of all types in all climate zones for their climate-specific path to a zero-carbon environment.

Winning schemes were judged based on their performance, and difficulty level including climate, site, and location challenges, as well as cost-effectiveness, design, craftsmanship, and health.

A pioneer in innovative education and sustainability, AGC’s state-of-the-art facility in Chicago features innovative design elements such as high-performance building envelopes, advanced mechanical systems, and renewable energy sources. These elements work synergistically to reduce energy demand, enhance indoor air quality, and foster a conducive learning environment for students and educators alike.

AGC originally earned its prestigious Phius Certification in 2024, making it largest school in the world, the first in the Midwest, and the first in the State of Illinois to do so.
